Hours: The Trish Feld Library is open from 7:30 AM until 2:30 PM while school is in session.

Facilities: The 12,000-volume library utilizes the new Destiny library system!  You can use this catalog through the Internet in school and from home. There are 6 Windows  PC's used as look-up stations. All of the computers have full access to the Internet. The library houses a collection of books, periodicals, videos, audio books (tape, CD and Playaway), and other non-book materials. We also have a printer and a scanner.  Brand new this year we have the school's first mounted projector which is "driven" by the main library computer, a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse. This is a great addition for anyone making presentations in the library!

Adjacent to the library is the Computer Lab which contains 26 Windows PC's with full Internet access. There is a laser printer networked for use in the room as well as a color printer which can be utilized as needed by classes.  The Computer Lab also contains a great projection device with fantastic picture quality.

Student Use of the Library

A student may get a pass to come to the library any time during the day as fits into his or her schedule. Students may get passes from teachers to come to the library and exchange books.  It is suggested that turn-around time for book exchange is about 7 minutes.  Students who want to work independently in the library for longer periods need a pass stating this from the sending teacher.

Class Use of the Library

Teachers sign up to bring their classes to the library to work with the librarian as needed. Sign-up for class use of library is done through the librarian. The library is an integral part of the overall program of Crossett Brook Middle School and the teacher and the librarian work together to support the planning and execution of units of study.  The library schedule can now be viewed on the network in the staff folder called Library Schedule.  Drop into the library or send me email to sign up and talk about what you and your students need!

The Internet Resources

At Crossett Brook Middle School we have full Internet access from every classroom as well as in the Library and Computer Lab. In order to do individual research on the Internet, a student and his or her parent must sign our Acceptable Use Policy.    A staff member must always be present while students are searching the Net.   Here are some of the awesome Internet based research resources you can get to from this website:

The DCF Reading Program

Vermont's Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award, first given in 1957, is co-sponsored by the Vermont PTA and the Vermont Department of Libraries. The award is named for one of Vermont's most beloved writers who lived most of her life in Arlington, Vermont. The Trish Feld Library has copies of all of the nominated books and the audio (when available) which will be voted on by students in grades 4 through 8 in April. The award ceremony is generally in the late Spring and we can take a small group of students to the ceremony. Students have to read a minimum of 5 of the nominated books in order to vote. Usually those chosen to go to the award ceremony are the students who have read the most DCF books. If you have any questions about the program, please get in touch with me.
